La Rondine

La Rondine

Music by G. Puccini

“Some of the composer's most intense lyrical outpourings.”

This bird you cannot change.

Oh, what drama we can create for ourselves. (And if you know someone who hasn’t, they are probably very dull.) It’s just what we humans do—especially when it comes to love.

The very naïve Ruggero falls for the very worldly, and receptive, Magda, a “kept” woman who longs for migration to warmth and happiness—like the swallow of the title.

Their whirlwind fantasy romance ends, however, when Magda realizes that she will be condemned for her past by Ruggero’s family.

In the end, like a captive bird, she flies back to her cage.

In Italian with English supertitles.
