Suor Angelica/Trouble in Tahiti

SEPT 27, 28 | 7:30 pm

Premiering in 1918, Suor Angelica (Sister Angelica) is the second in a trio of one-act operas known as Il Trittico (The Triptych), and Puccini’s favorite. Trouble in Tahiti, Bernstein’s satire of 1950s American suburban life, examines a disconsolate couple trying to attain the married bliss society—in its conformity and consumerism—promised them.

A diverse and vibrant collection, choreographed by Durante Verzola, George Balanchine, Ken Ossola, and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux.

IU’s globe-trotting “ambassadors of song” have delighted audiences in more than 25 countries. This fall, they'll perform for the home crowd.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay

NOV 15, 16, 21, 22 | 7:30 pm

A coproduction with the Metropolitan Opera and a world premiere at the MAC! Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Michael Chabon, Bates and Scheer’s opera portrays two cousins in 1940s New York City who team up to create a comic book superhero who takes America by storm battling the Nazis.

The Nutcracker

DEC 5, 6, 7 | 7:30 pm

DEC 7, 8 | 2 pm

Premiering last year, Jacobs faculty choreographer Sasha Janes’ updated, stereotype-shattering version of this popular ballet tells the story from the perspective of curious young Marie, with help from her Aunt Drosselmeyer.

Alcina

Tales of spells and enchantresses have captured the imagination of audiences from fairy tales to cinema. Opera is no exception, and no one has done it better than Handel.

FEB 21, 22 | 7:30 pm

Enjoy the greatest movies, with the best scores, played live at the MAC! The IU Concert Orchestra will perform the score alongside all the action on the big screen.

The Turn of the Screw

MAR 7, 8 | 7:30 pm

Based on Henry James’ haunting novella, this enigmatic story examines one of Britten’s favorite themes: loss of innocence. The piece sparks a network of ambiguous connections and queries but refuses to tie up all loose ends.
